Islamabad (Khyber Mail): Dr. Luay Shabaneh, the UNFPA Representative in Islamabad, recently had a meeting with Caretaker Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan to discuss various issues related to the health sector and areas of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the Minister informed Dr. Shabaneh that the Ministry of National Health Services is preparing to organize the “All Pakistan Women’s Convention on Family Planning and Population Management” at the Convention Centre in Islamabad on October 16, 2023. The primary objective of this convention is to empower women and mothers by raising awareness and knowledge, especially among rural women, on population-related issues and family planning, based on the Islamic concept of “Tawazun,” which emphasizes the balance between resources and population.

The minister highlighted that the audience at the convention will include 500 women of reproductive health ages from rural and peri-urban areas.

The event will also feature participation from scholars and national and international experts who will shed light on the Islamic perspective on family planning. Balancing resources with the population is the need of the hour, he emphasized.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that the government is actively working under an integrated strategy to control the population’s growth. He noted that the Population Task Force is implementing a comprehensive strategy to address population-related challenges.

Dr. Luay Shabaneh, the UNFPA Representative, commended the measures taken to control population growth and assured full support from UNFPA in this regard.
