• MOFA Crises Unit activated to assist Pakistani nationals in Kyrgyz, their families

Bishkek (Agencies): Pakistani students studying in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, faced a violent attack by locals, prompting authorities to advise them to “stay indoors.” The incident occurred early on Saturday and targeted foreign students, including those from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Although no deaths have been confirmed, the situation remains tense.

The country’s ambassador to Bishkek, Hasan Zaigham, emphasized student safety, urging them to remain indoors until normalcy is restored. The embassy is actively coordinating with local law enforcement to ensure their well-being.

In the aftermath of a brawl between Egyptian nationals and locals, foreign students became victims of mob violence. Videos of a fight between Kyrgyz and Egyptian medical students, shared online, exacerbated tensions. Several hostels affiliated with medical universities were attacked, housing students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

While there have been reports of light injuries to Pakistani students, no confirmed deaths or rapes have been verified. The local embassy is closely communicating with Kyrgyz authorities, addressing queries from concerned students and their families.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern and directed the envoy in Kyrgyzstan to provide necessary assistance to the student community during this challenging time.

At the instruction of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), on Saturday activated its Crisis Management Unit for the facilitation and assistance of the Pakistani nationals in the Kyrgyz Republic and their families.
