New York (Agencies): During his ongoing visit to the United States, General Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, held a crucial meeting with Mr. Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary General, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Mr. Guterres warmly welcomed General Munir, acknowledging the valuable contributions of the Pakistan Army and Law Enforcement Agencies towards global peace and stability. The COAS reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the United Nations, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to earnestly contribute to the organization’s initiatives.
In the meeting, General Munir highlighted the persistent issues in Kashmir and Gaza, stressing that lasting peace in South Asia is contingent upon a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Kashmir Dispute in line with UNSC resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He strongly condemned India’s unilateral and illegal attempts to alter the status of Jammu & Kashmir, citing a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolutions.
Additionally, the COAS reiterated Pakistan’s position on the Palestine issue, urging the UNSG to mobilize the international community for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza. General Munir emphasized that a lasting solution lies in a Two-State Solution and expressed deep concern for the innocent civilians facing brutality without sufficient humanitarian relief.
Acknowledging General Munir’s concerns, Secretary General Guterres thanked him for the visit to the UN Headquarters, recognizing the significance of continued dialogue on these critical matters.
