Dear Editor,

Reports from the region indicate a severe humanitarian crisis, with escalating violence, displacement, and a growing number of casualties. The plight of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire is heartbreaking, and urgent action is needed to alleviate their suffering.

Thousands are reported to be killed and over 25 million people, comprising more than half of the population are in dire need of humanitarian assistance . Additionally around 6 million individuals have been forced to flee their homes, becoming internally displaced within Sudan or seeking refuge in neighboring countries.

The World Food Program reports that the intensifying conflict is forcing more people to flee , the economy is being pushed further into crisis and its pushing hunger to record levels with over 20 million people now facing severe hunger.

Of these people facing severe hunger, 2.5 million are malnourished children with 700,000 of them suffering from severe acute malnutrition which can lead to death.

We continue to receive unrelenting and appealing reports of sexual and gender-based violence and forced disappearance, arbitrary detentions and grave violations of human and children’s rights.

It Is crucial for the global community to unite in condemning the violence . Humanitarian aid must be expedited to provide relief to those in dire need, and international organizations should collaborate to ensure the protection of human rights.

The media plays a pivotal role in raising awareness and mobilizing public opinion. I implore you to continue reporting on the situation in Sudan, shedding light on the human stories behind the statistics and fostering a sense of urgency for international intervention.

Sincerely,
Rabika Shoukat
Sukkur
