TABUK (Agencies): Red Sea International Airport is set to mark a pivotal moment as it prepares to receive its first international flight. Operated by flydubai, this inaugural flight will connect Dubai International Airport (DXB) directly to Red Sea International Airport (RSI) starting on April 18. The new twice-weekly route to The Red Sea destination is an exciting development for the region.
Since September 2023, RSI has been serving domestic flights operated by Saudia. With the addition of flydubai services, RSI will now facilitate eight regular flights per week, further enhancing connectivity for residents of the Red Sea regions along the western coast of Saudi Arabia.
John Pagano, Group CEO at Red Sea Global, emphasized the airport’s strategic location: “Situated within three hours flying time of 250 million people, RSI will serve 1 million guests a year at full capacity. Our inaugural flight just six months ago was the start of our journey toward reaching that goal, and this first international flight is a further step in making Saudi Arabia one of the top tourism destinations globally.”
He added, “We are looking forward to truly opening up to the world and welcoming visitors from the UAE, the wider Middle East region, and beyond. RSI is also essential for providing connectivity for our employees, partners, and the wider local community.”
Michael White, Chief Commercial Officer of Red Sea International Airport, expressed excitement about the arrival of international travelers. He said, “Following our first domestic flights touching down in September last year, we are committed to providing exceptional services to passengers and airlines alike. We look forward to further expanding our network to serve The Red Sea and travelers from around the world.”
RSI’s commitment to sustainability is noteworthy, as it aims to become the first carbon-neutral airport in the Middle East. Innovative solutions are being implemented to eliminate and offset carbon emissions, optimize energy consumption, and advance efficiencies in resource and waste management.
The airport’s innovative design includes a terminal set to open in full next year. Divided into five ‘mini terminals’, it can be operated independently or concurrently depending on demand. RSI is poised to play a significant role in connecting travelers to the beauty of The Red Sea and its luxurious resorts, including Six Senses Southern Dunes and St. Regis Red Sea Resort. More resorts are set to open this year, making it an exciting time for tourism in the region! ???
